Rep. Paul Tonko at the March for Science, New York State Capitol, Albany, NY – April 22, 2017

“We cannot stand silent as investments in research and education are cut deeply. We cannot stand silent as we witness scientific integrity degraded. We cannot stand silent as we witness federal science programs eliminated or comprised. What an awkward time to present such un-American, immoral behavior as the rest of the world is investing in science, research, and innovation. As they do that, the attempts of some in our society to pull us backward will result in tremendous harm. We will lose our great pace of moving forward and investing in a new economy, bringing us toward progress of untold dimensions. Let us go forward with soundness of thinking. Let us understand that the basic idea of inquiry must be free and facts and evidence do indeed matter. Respect for science and the belief that science should underpin sound public policy should be non-partisan ideals.”
